One of the more famous telescope brands is the Meade telescope, from Meade Company. This is a company that was founded in 1972, and had gone public in 1997. It is today a world leader in production of telescopes and amateur astronomer accessories.

The first Meade telescopes were the 628 and 826 6” and 8” reflecting telescopes, which are quality products available at reasonable prices. In fact, these telescopes were so successful in sales, that the company had a 6 month backlog. With this backlog, the company had written to all customers explaining about the backlog of telescopes. With this, the company had offered an immediate refund if the customer could not afford to wait for this extra waiting time for the arrival of the telescope. This offer was accepted by few customers. It was in September 1980 that Meade launched its new telescope Model 2080, and since then, the company has been releasing new and exciting telescopes and its accessories.
